If you went to Japan and ask a person what his or her zodiac sign is, you'd most likely hear that they're a rat, a horse, or an ox. Japanese have a different astrological system all together. This system is known in Japan as junishi.
The japanese zodiac system junishi was derived from the chinese system about 1200 to 1300 but some say that it got started from Empress Suiko in 604 AD. 2007 is the year of the Pig or Wild boar. Many homes and businesses are displaying a small model of a pig as a lucky charm.
Just like the western zodiac system, many believe that a person's sign is an indicator of their personality and or character so they use it to judge compatibility for love matches and to tell fortunes. Some Japanese women will not tell you their sign too because it's common to calculate their age. Here's a gist of the 12 signs in the Japanese zodiac system. Remember they have it on a 12 year cycle instead of 12 month system as in the west.
